This Wednesday, Lent begins. Last Lent, I gave up meat and became a pescetarian. Definition below.
Pescetarianism /ˌpɛskɨˈtɛəriən/ (also spelled pescatarianism) is the practice of following a diet that includes fish or other seafood, but not the flesh of other animals. A pescetarian diet typically shares many of its components with a lacto-ovo vegetarian diet and may include vegetables, fruit, nuts, grains, beans, eggs, dairy, and insect byproducts (such as honey, carmine, or shellac), but a vegetarian diet excludes meat. The Merriam-Webster dictionary dates the origin of the term pescetarian to 1993 and defines it as: “one whose diet includes fish but no other meat.”

I have now been a pescetarian for a year and I’m enjoying it. The only meat dishes I miss sometimes are bacon, oxtails, and dinuguan, a Filipino dish.
For this year’s Lent period, March 5th to April 17th, I will be doing two things. First thing, I will be cutting out/majorly scaling back my dairy consumption. I’m lactose intolerant, so I shouldn’t be partaking of a lot of dairy. I love ice cream and aged cheddar, so it’s going to be hard. Once Lent is over I will limit my ice cream and cheese intake. Uggh. Ice Cream. ❤
The second thing, will be attempting a no-poo regiment for my hair and using household items to wash/condition my hair. I’ve already been using sulfate free shampoo/cleansers and cowashes. However, it’s become a pain searching for a great deep conditioner. A definite pain in my wallet. Therefore I decided it was time to try more natural and simpler means. The first thing I have to do, before I began the no-poo lifestyle, do one final clarifying wash. That will happen today. Below are the hair products/formulas I will be using and some that I want to try out, along with links to Youtube videos explaining the recipes. It’s going to be an interesting Lent.
